ALEXANDRIA, VA – The 84th Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour organized by the Twig will return in late September.

The Twig, the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, organizes the yearly glimpse into a surprise selection of historic city homes. Eight houses are taking part this year, with the homes kept secret until the day of the tour.

Home visits include viewing furniture, artwork, landscaping and more. "A modest exterior can open into rooms full of curated art, museum-quality collections, pools, and English gardens," the organizers say.

Teasers about this year's homes say some have Revolutionary War histories, "naughty furniture," a swimming pool, a Pablo Picasso sketch, a famous baseball glove, handmade crafts, a president's favorite writing chair and more.

The historic homes tour is a self-guided walking tour, with proceeds benefiting Inova Alexandria Hospital. According to the Twig, they have raised more than $6 million for the hospital so far, with total giving by 2031 expected to exceed $8 million.

The Twig was founded in 1933 by two dozen women as the Junior Auxiliary of the Alexandria Hospital. The Twig ("together we ignite giving") is a Covid-19 pandemic-era campaign launched to reach out to community partners who support Twig's mission. The group also sells cookbooks and operates a thrift shop in Old Town.

Tickets are on sale now for $50 each and will remain on sale until Sept. 10. Reports on the event indicate that it usually sells out. Tickets can be purchased here.

The tour will be held on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town Alexandria.
