ALEXANDRIA, VA — A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man outside an Alexandria apartment complex last month was arrested Thursday in North Carolina, according to a WCTI report citing authorities.

Corey Stubblefield, 37, of Alexandria, was arrested early Thursday in Sampson County following a three-week investigation involving the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, Alexandria police and federal law enforcement partners, WCTI reported.

Authorities identified Stubblefield as a suspect in the July 15 shooting death of Charles Talley outside the ParcView Apartments on Holmes Run Parkway. Investigators learned Stubblefield may have traveled to the Clinton, North Carolina, area after the shooting, according to WCTI.

Stubblefield is being held without bond at the Sampson County Detention Center on a North Carolina fugitive warrant while awaiting extradition to Virginia, the report said.

The arrest came more than a month after Alexandria police found Talley suffering from a gunshot wound around 11:15 p.m. July 15 in front of the ParcView Apartments at 5380 Holmes Run Parkway, Patch previously reported. Talley, who had no fixed address, was identified by police the following day.

At the time, Alexandria police said the city's medical examiner would determine Talley's cause and manner of death.

Police also sought information from anyone who saw anything unusual around the apartment complex near the time of the shooting, including security or doorbell camera footage, dashcam recordings and cellphone photos or videos.
