ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria's Traffic and Parking Board is scheduled to discuss parking changes in three city locations at its next meeting on Monday.
The meeting docket lists discussions regarding safety improvement proposals for Dawes Avenue, Old Dominion Boulevard and Russell Road.
On the latter, the board will vote on whether to add 11 parking spaces and two loading zones near Naomi Brooks Elementary School, part of a months-long campaign. The project covers Russell Road from West Myrtle Street to West Maple Street and is intended to make it safer for children and other pedestrians to cross Russell Road while also slowing traffic. The city reports seven crashes since 2017, including two involving injuries, along the project corridor.
The Old Dominion Boulevard Safety Improvements Project covers the 3600 block of Old Dominion Boulevard, the intersection of Old Dominion Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue, and the intersection of Tennessee Avenue and North Overlook Drive. Alexandria says there have been nine crashes in the project area since 2017, with about one-third resulting in injuries. The city is proposing removing parking in several areas near those intersections.

The meeting will be held in person and streamed online and public comment will be taken. Members of the public must submit written comments in advance to trafficandparkingboard@alexandriava.gov no later than 12 p.m. on Monday. Comments can also be made in person or through the conference call on the day of the hearing.
