Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Portsmouth's Big H.O.M.I.E.S. recreation center nears completion, offering kids a safe space in the area (wtkr.com) — A new 11,000-square-foot Big H.O.M.I.E.S. recreation center on Lincoln Street in Portsmouth is nearly finished, aiming to open by mid-October as a safe space for kids. Serving the Southside Newtown area and the wider city, it's designed to keep children away from neighborhood violence and will also house a food pantry as school resumes Aug. 24.
• Portsmouth City Hall closed 3 days last week due to AC issues. A new building is still 3 years out. (wtkr.com) — Portsmouth residents recently found City Hall closed three straight days because of failing air conditioning in the aging, nearly 50-year-old building, forcing services online or to alternate locations. City leaders say a new City Hall and parking garage near the Portsmouth Public Library are still about three years away, with design work and cost estimates underway before construction can begin.
• Charter completes acquisition of Cox: What that means for you (kfor.com subscription) — Portsmouth cable and internet customers with Cox or Charter will soon see changes after Charter's $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox and Liberty Broadband, with all services shifting under the Spectrum brand. Local subscribers may qualify for a free year of mobile service, and Cox customers will gradually move to Spectrum products and customer support over the coming year.
