• HRT's Student Freedom Pass celebrates 10 years (wavy.com) — Portsmouth teens ages 13–17 can ride Hampton Roads Transit buses, light rail, and ferries for free with HRT's Student Freedom Pass, which is marking its 10th year. The pass helps students reach after-school activities and jobs across Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and other nearby cities. Families complete an online application, then finish signup at select transit centers.
• Amtrak to run only 1 roundtrip train daily to Hampton Roads for 9 nine days in October (wavy.com) — Portsmouth-area train riders to Washington, D.C. should prepare for major Amtrak disruptions from Oct. 16–26, when all rail service between Virginia and the capital pauses for tunnel work. During that stretch, Newport News and Williamsburg trains are canceled, and only one daily roundtrip will run from Norfolk to Alexandria, with buses connecting to D.C. and other points north.
