Galvanize Leads $70 Million Financing for AMP's AI-Powered Waste Infrastructure (citybiz.co) β A major $70 million financing deal will fund new AI-powered waste and organics processing facilities in Portsmouth, expanding AMP's existing operation with the regional trash authority. Once built, the system is expected to handle over 500,000 tons of waste a year, significantly boost recycling, extend the life of the regional landfill, and help control long-term disposal costs for Portsmouth households.

Portsmouth neighbor frustrated by overgrown property after repeated city violations (13newsnow.com) β A Portsmouth neighbor on Treakle Terrace says an overgrown cell tower lot on Alabama Avenue has become a recurring nuisance, despite multiple city violation notices over the years. He worries about snakes, avoids his backyard, and questions whether the city or property owner followed through after the latest September citation and planned cleanup. Officials say costs could become a lien on the property.

Virginia receives $16.5 million in federal DCIP grants for infrastructure upgrades in Hampton Roads (fundsforngos.org) β Portsmouth is set to receive $3 million in federal Defense Community Infrastructure Program funding to upgrade wastewater systems tied to Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads, part of a larger $16.5 million Hampton Roads package. Staunton police shoot and kill Portsmouth man during fight at Walmart: SPD (wtkr.com) β A 39-year-old man from Portsmouth, Montique Treymayne Gaston, was shot and killed by a Staunton police officer during a fight in a Walmart parking lot on Sept. 22. State Police are conducting an independent investigation using body-camera footage, while Staunton's police chief acknowledges community pain and promises transparency once the review is complete.
