• Homeowner allegedly used ax to kill man found dead in backyard (myfox8.com) — Portsmouth police have charged 53-year-old Gregory Coffey with first-degree murder after human remains identified as Gordon Randolph Tillman Jr. were found near Elliott Avenue in the Highland Biltmore area. Court documents describe witnesses, an alleged ax killing, and efforts to burn and conceal the body, with Coffey held without bail and a November court date set.
   

• Navy: USS Dwight D. Eisenhower returning to Norfolk after aviation mishap (wtkr.com) — Sailors injured in a recent aircraft mishap aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower were flown to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth for further evaluation, underscoring the hospital's key role in regional military care.
