The 2017 James Beard Foundation Awards have just revealed their winners, and a D.C. baker has taken home one of the most coveted awards in the culinary profession. Mark Furstenberg, the head chef of Bread Furst in Northwest D.C., has won the award for Outstanding Baker. Another D.C. chef, Nora Pouillon, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Removing Confederate Name Would Cost School $1M: Board Emails
A taxpayer watchdog group said it has found evidence that removing a Confederate general's name from a Fairfax County school would come with a big price tag. The name change of J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church is under consideration in a Fairfax County School Board working group.
