5 RA Pools Closed Memorial Day Weekend Due To Lack Of New AEDs

RESTON, VA — Memorial Day weekend is often seen as the start of the summer season, with many people hosting cookouts or visiting their community pool. Unfortunately, not all of the Reston Association pools will be open for the holiday weekend.

Due to supply chain delays, the following five RA pools did not receive new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in time for Memorial Day weekend: Autumnwood, Ridge Heights, Hunters Woods, Golf Course Island, and Tall Oaks, according to an RA announcement. Since the pools don't have new AEDs, RA won't be able to operated them.

The importance of having AEDs poolside was demonstrated on Sunday, when one was used to revive an older man who suffered a medical emergency while swimming laps at the North Shore pool.

RA's eight other pools will be open Memorial Day weekend: Lake Newport, North Hills, North Shore, Uplands, Lake Audubon, Newbridge, Glade and Dogwood. Their hours of operation are 11 a.m. -7 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday, and 11 a.m.-6. p.m., on Monday.
