5-Year-Old And His Mother Robbed While Walking In Reston: Police

The robber pushed both of them to the ground and fled into the woods, police say.

RESTON, VA -- Police are searching for a suspect after a robber ambushed a woman and her five-year-old son who were walking home in Reston earlier this week.

Police say the woman and her son were walking along a wooded path in the 11600 block of Stoneview Square at around 3:20 p.m. on June 11 when a man armed with a handgun "jumped out of the bushes and demanded her purse," according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.

"The suspect took the purse then pushed both victims to the ground and ran into the woods," the report states. "Both victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries to be evaluated."
