Amazon Prime Members Get Deals At VA, DC Whole Foods On June 27

Amazon is discounting items at Virginia, DC Whole Foods for Prime members. How much could you save starting June 27? Find out here.

WASHINGTON, DC — Amazon is giving Virginia and DC grocery shoppers more incentive to stock up the pantry at Whole Foods by extending discounts to Amazon Prime members at the register and delivery via Prime Now starting Wednesday, June 27, the company announced Monday. The discount program offers an additional 10 percent off sales items, along with exclusive deep discounts on select items chosen weekly at all Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 stores in the U.S.

The move to extend Prime discounts at all stores nationwide is part of the online retailer's goal of reducing prices at the upmarket organic grocer that it bought for $13.7 million a year ago. The rollout of the discount program announced June 11 was first available earlier this month in 10 states that included North Carolina, Georgia, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.

The discount program, which was first rolled out in Whole Foods stores in Florida earlier this year, joins other recently launched programs. Amazon and Whole Foods launched free two-hour delivery on groceries through Prime Now in 10 cities, and there are plans to expand that service elsewhere in the U.S. this year. Eligible Prime members also receive 5 percent on Whole Foods Market purchases when using the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card.

These are some of the popular products Prime members will receive savings on, says the company:

  • Baby back pork ribs, animal welfare rated and no antibiotics, $4.99/lb., save $5/lb.
  • Sockeye salmon, wild caught Marine Stewardship Council-certified, $13.99/lb., save $6/lb.
  • Organic red cherries, $3.99/lb., save $2/lb.
  • Organic yellow peaches, $1.99/lb., save $2/lb.
  • Mochi ice cream, including flavors like chocolate, salted caramel, and green tea, self-serve, 5/$5
  • All bulk items, including favorites like nuts, granola, dried fruit, and hundreds more, 25 percent off
  • Organic Honest Lemonade, 32 oz., 2/$3
  • Plus an additional 10 percent off hundreds of sale items throughout the store

“Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – in fact, Prime members have adopted this benefit at one of the fastest rates we’ve seen,” said Cem Sibay, vice president, Amazon Prime, in a news release. “Since starting this rollout in mid-May, Prime members have already saved millions of dollars on everything from seasonal favorites to popular products.”

Prime Now grocery delivery, together with the savings for Prime members, is available in Baltimore, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Richmond, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco and Virginia Beach. Prime Now offers free two-hour delivery on orders over $35. Delivery from Whole Foods Market will continue expanding throughout 2018, the retailer says.
