RESTON, VA — South Lakes High School will stage “9 to 5: The Musical” from April 30 through May 2, with four performances scheduled at the school.
The production is written by Dolly Parton and is set in a 1970s office. According to the production release the story centers on three women, Violet, played by Lily Ingraham, Judy, played by Jocelyn Looney, and Doralee, played by Sidney Walkup, who come from different backgrounds but share the experience of being underestimated.
The characters form an alliance as the story develops, according to the release. It also highlights Doralee as a character who challenges assumptions from the moment she appears on stage.
“It’s a story that celebrates friendship, resilience, and the courage it takes to stand up for what’s right,” said Michael Viola, director of South Lakes Theatre Arts.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1. On Saturday, May 2, shows are set for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The production focuses not only on humor and energy, but also on the smaller moments that connect the characters, including shared glances, laughter and support for one another.
South Lakes High School serves families in Reston and nearby Herndon, and the production is set to bring the school’s theater program to the stage over three days.
