RESTON, VA — Many government offices, schools, transit services and community facilities in and around Reston will be closed or operating on modified schedules for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.

Below are the changes to know around Reston:
Fairfax County government offices: Closed Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day.
Reston Association offices: Closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. Normal office hours resume Tuesday, May 26.
Fairfax County Public Schools: The FCPS calendar lists Monday, May 25, as the Memorial Day holiday. Tuesday, May 26, is listed as a student holiday and teacher workday, and Wednesday, May 27, is listed as a holiday for Eid al-Adha.
Courts: Fairfax Circuit Court lists Monday, May 25, as a 2026 court holiday for Memorial Day. Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court also lists May 25 as “Memorial Day — Court Closed."
Elections: There is no Memorial Day early-voting closure to note for 2026. The Virginia Department of Elections lists the next primary for Aug. 4, with early in-person voting scheduled from June 19 through Aug. 1; if a local office is closed June 19 for Juneteenth, early voting begins Thursday, June 18.
Permitting and inspections: Fairfax County permitting, zoning and land-development offices are closed with county government offices Monday, May 25. The county’s PLUS system remains available online for applications, payments, searches and status tracking.
Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed Monday, May 25. Library apps and online services remain available.
Trash pickup and recycling: For Fairfax County collection customers, trash and recycling collection will operate on the regular Monday schedule for Memorial Day. The administrative office will be closed Monday, May 25, and will reopen Tuesday, May 26. County disposal centers are open on most holidays, and private collection customers should check directly with their hauler.
Virginia DMV: All Virginia DMV offices, the Customer Contact Center and social media customer service will be closed Monday, May 25. DMV online services remain available.
Post offices: U.S. Postal Service Post Office locations will be closed Monday, May 25. Regular mail delivery and retail services resume Tuesday, May 26; many USPS services remain available online and through select self-service kiosks.
Metrorail and Metrobus: On Monday, May 25, Metrorail will run on weekend service frequency from 6 a.m. to midnight. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. (WMATA)
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector buses will operate on a Sunday service schedule Monday, May 25. Routes not listed by Fairfax Connector as Sunday-service routes will not operate on Memorial Day. Parks and recreation: Fairfax County Park Authority says veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families will receive complimentary access to select park amenities and activities on Memorial Day, May 25. The offer includes rec center admission, including pools, fitness rooms, gyms and drop-in fitness classes, as well as camping at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston.
Reston Association pools: Reston Association’s 2026 pool schedule lists Season 2 as running from May 23 through June 19, including Memorial Day weekend. RA’s holiday schedule says all pools listed on the schedule will operate holiday hours, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
Reston Association boat rentals: Lake Anne Boat Dock boat rentals open Memorial Day weekend and continue through Labor Day weekend. RA also lists pop-up boat rentals at the Lake Audubon Boat Ramp during the season.
Reston Association amenities and programs: RA’s main offices are closed Monday, May 25, but residents should check individual facility schedules for pools, courts, events and outdoor amenities, since some recreation services follow separate holiday or seasonal schedules.
