Reston Primary Voter Guide: What’s On The Aug. 4 Ballot

RESTON, VA — The Virginia Department of Elections requested a primary election to nominate Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and local offices.

Early voting for the primary began on June 18 and ended on Aug. 1. Voters are not registered by party in Virginia, so any registered voter can cast a ballot in the primary they choose.

Reston is in the 11th Congressional District. Incumbent U.S. Rep. James Walkinshaw (D) is running for re-election and Arthur Purves is the Republican Party's candidate. So, there was no primary in the 11th District race.

Since there are no local races on the November ballot, Reston voters can cast ballots for three Republicans running in the U.S. Senate race: Kim Farington, Bert K Mizusawa, and David Earl Williams. The winner will face incumbent U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D) in November.

Senate Republican Primary

Voters can choose from among 3 candidates running to represent the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate race in November. Those candidates are:

• Kim Farington
• Bert K Mizusawa
• David Earl Williams

On the Democratic side, incumbent Sen. Mark Warner has already secured his party's nomination.

Voting by mail

Completed ballots must be returned by 7 p.m., Aug. 4.

• Mail ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Aug. 4 and received by 12 p.m. Aug. 7.
