FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — FACETS has extended its annual Back-to-School Drive through Aug. 10, giving residents additional time to donate backpacks, school supplies and financial contributions for students served by the nonprofit's programs.

The organization said the extension is intended to help more local students begin the school year with the supplies they need.

According to FACETS, donations support students participating in several programs, including its Education and Community Development Centers at One University, Wedgewood, Barros Circle and Ragan Oaks; Opportunity Neighborhoods in Centreville and Annandale; the Next Steps Family Shelter; walk-in clients; and referrals from Fairfax County.

School Supplies Still Needed

FACETS said it is continuing to collect new backpacks and school supplies, including notebooks, folders, loose-leaf paper, pencils and composition books.

The nonprofit also noted that Virginia's sales tax holiday runs Aug. 7-9, encouraging donors to purchase supplies during that period.

Financial Donations Also Requested

In addition to school supplies, FACETS is seeking financial donations to help cover the costs of distributing donations throughout Fairfax County.

According to the organization, contributions help pay for expenses such as vehicle fuel, van maintenance and coordinating deliveries to multiple distribution sites.

Residents who would like to donate school supplies are asked to contact FACETS for drop-off information before Aug. 10. Those who prefer to make a financial contribution can donate to support both the school supply drive and the organization's operations.
