A Mid-Century Pop-Up Is Coming To Lake Anne Plaza

RESTON, VA — A temporary shop combining mid-century modern furnishings with nonalcoholic drinks is coming to Lake Anne Plaza while Lake Anne Brew House awaits permits for a planned taproom expansion.

Vintage Reston will occupy the former Chesapeake Chocolates space next to the brewery at 11426 Washington Plaza West. The space is ultimately intended to become part of the Lake Anne Brew House taproom.

The pop-up was created by brewery co-owner and architect Melissa Romano, whose collection includes furniture, lighting, glassware, barware and art. Romano has restored many of the pieces herself, according to an announcement from Lake Anne Brew House.

Furniture Guests Can Try Before Buying

Vintage Reston is being arranged as a series of furnished living spaces instead of a conventional resale shop. Visitors will be able to sit on the furniture, gather around tables and examine the merchandise in use. Items displayed throughout the shop will be available for purchase.

"My passion and creative energy have always been drawn to beautifully designed objects, especially Danish modern and mid-century furnishings," Romano said.

The inventory will include pieces from Romano's collection, along with consigned furniture, household goods and artwork. A small number of original works by Romano will also be available. Because the store will carry vintage, restored and consigned merchandise, its selection is expected to change.

Romano said the pop-up was developed after the permitting process for the taproom expansion took longer than expected. The temporary use allows the neighboring storefront to operate while the brewery continues pursuing its expansion plans.

Zero-Proof Drinks Planned

The shop will also sell packaged nonalcoholic drinks, including craft zero-proof cocktails, nonalcoholic beer, functional and adaptogenic beverages, and nostalgic sodas.

Its mid-century theme draws on the history of Reston, which Robert E. Simon Jr. founded in the 1960s. Lake Anne Village Center remains closely associated with the community's original modernist design.

Vintage Reston will remain temporary. Lake Anne Brew House still plans to incorporate the storefront into its taproom after the permitting process is completed.

Lake Anne Brew House, owned by Melissa and Jason Romano, opened in 2016. The brewery makes small-batch beer at its Lake Anne Plaza location.
