RESTON, VA — A utility pole collapsed onto an ambulance Tuesday after a truck caught hanging electrical wires at the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Reston, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
Fire and rescue crews responded around 11:30 a.m. to the crash at Bracknell Drive and Baron Cameron Avenue. One of the vehicles had struck a utility pole, officials said.
While emergency crews were at the scene, a passing truck caught electrical wires hanging over the roadway, causing the pole to fall onto an ambulance, according to the fire department.
A bystander and one firefighter were taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Officials did not identify the injured people or provide additional information about the circumstances of the initial crash.
Fairfax County Police closed Baron Cameron Avenue in both directions at Bracknell Drive while crews made repairs. The Virginia Department of Transportation said the road was expected to remain blocked through Tuesday evening's rush hour for signal pole repairs.
Drivers were advised to avoid the intersection and use alternate routes.
