RESTON, VA — South Lakes High School automotive students have another vehicle to learn on after Fairfax County School Board member Kyle McDaniel donated his car to the program.
McDaniel, an at-large board member, said the donation was intended to highlight career and technical education and the opportunities those courses offer students, according to a news release issued Thursday.
The vehicle will give students access to hands-on learning as they apply technical knowledge and develop automotive skills, the release said.
"These real-world learning experiences they have in CTE programs can open up a world of new employment opportunities and give them an edge," McDaniel said. "I wanted to showcase that program and encourage our community members to spread the word."
Fairfax County Public Schools' career and technical education courses prepare students for further education or entry-level employment. Offerings include business and information technology, health and medical sciences, technology and engineering, and trade and industrial education. Courses vary by school.
Families can explore the district's high school career and technical education programs and South Lakes' CTE department and course catalog links.
