Barking Dog Chases Away Burglar in Reston: Police
The man was later arrested at a nearby lake and charged with attempted burglary.

RESTON, VA — A would-be burglar was foiled by a barking dog in Reston, and was then arrested by police at a nearby lake, police say.
Police were called to the 1700 block of Lake Shore Crest Drive at around 11:26 p.m. on Jan. 10 after a homeowner was "awakened by their dog barking," according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.
"He went to investigate and discovered that a window was raised and the screen was off," the report states. "He then saw a man walking away from his house, toward a nearby lake."

Officers set up a perimeter and a K9 established a track to a nearby building. Surveillance footage had captured the suspect on video, and police were able to locate and identify him, the report adds.
Police arrested 43-year-old Bruce Engelberg on a charge of attempted burglary. He was taken to the Adult Detention Center.
