Health & Fitness

Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Mosquito. Are you staying a while?

Can you keep those pesky intruders away? An idea or two for you.

Have you met my new neighbors, The Mosquitoes? They are regular visitors in the 'hood but they really don't bother me as they do for so many others nearby. Want to know my secret?

Many moons ago, I learned about sublingual B-12 as a personal, non-intrusive mosquito repellent. Got them from Trader Joes back then, when the box actually had a mosquito in a circle with the slash across. Today, it does not but it still works like magic! The critters may lay on my arm, but I get no bites! REALLY. ZERO bites last year and I am outside a lot. Give it a try.

I read that you can organically cut a lime in half and insert whole cloves as a mosquito repellent on the deck.

I have had experience with organic Bt dunks also. Bacillus thuringensis. We put them in the water tanks at the community gardens. You can also get it in a spray form to tackle the mosquitoes in a lot of areas of your yard. The Bt eats up the mosquito eggs in standing water, so it works up pretty darn well. Plus, it is non-harmful to the environment!

Be glad you don't live in Florida. Did you hear about these GALLINIPPERS? They are up to 20 times the size of regular skiters! YIKES!! They are not disease transmitters, whew. Here is the link to the spot on the Today Show today http://www.today.com/video/today/52165917/#52165917

Good luck protecting yourself this summer! Get out and enjoy to outside ~ be prepared!
