Two Reston Plant Reminders!

Reminders of two Reston Plant Happenings: The Reston Patch Plant Swap and the RA Garlic Mustard Challenge!!

Wanted to remind everyone that in just 9 days on April 28 from 12-2pm, I will be hosting a plant swap at the Hunters Woods Pool parking lot, just off of Reston Parkway. I certainly hope it is sunny as I have not strategized far enough in advance to even think of a rain date!

What this means to you? If you have plants that need to be thinned out or you have decided to remove plants, take some time this weekend and/or during the next week to dig them up. You can then either put them in plastic bags or reuse pots from other plants.

Then, show up at the Plant Swap!! I will have some sort of snack, it will be a surprise!

The other reminder: The Reston Association will be wrapping up their Garlic Mustard Challenge on May 4!! It is really easy to spot these plants growing along paths because the little rosettes have grown tall really quickly AND they are quickly sprouting their little flowers.

Since they are so easy to pull up, you can and should take a bag out with you on your walks to gather them up!! Or, just pull them up as you walk the dog!

Weigh them when you get home and keep track. Then, on May 4, please come to the Walker Nature Center's Spring Festival! Bring ALL of your Garlic Mustard collection. Turn it in and cross your fingers that you are one of the lucky ones who have collected the most!  There are PRIZES!!

Good Luck!

Molly
