Hiking trail is located at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. Ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for June.

Reston residents will celebrate the completion of the Chestnut Grove Trail Bridge with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, June 6, at 10 a.m. at Lake Fairfax Park,1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston.

See a map of the trail system here.

Due to the rugged nature of the adjoining mountain bike trails, the ceremony will be held between sites 27 and 23 in C campground near a similar bridge located by the nature trail. Visitors should drive to the C campground at Lake Fairfax Park. Signage will guide you to the ceremony and a guided hike to the actual bridge will be held afterwards.

The Fairfax County Park Foundation (FCPF) recently secured a generous $25,000 grant from Dominion to purchase and install a new fiberglass bridge, place interpretive signage and upgrade a portion of natural surface trail along the Chestnut Grove Trail in Lake Fairfax Park. Park Authority staff has worked with these partners to develop the project scope and identify additional funding to complete the project. Total project costs were $60,000.

The bridge will improve access and linkage of the Chestnut Grove Connector Trail with other established park trails and facilities. A fiberglass bridge is required to make this connection and will provide much needed park access to users of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail and residents of Reston and surrounding communities.
