Burglar Enters Reston Home Because of Garage Door Opener Left in Unlocked Car: Police

Police say the opportunistic thief took a purse and a wallet.

RESTON, VA — Someone had their house broken into near Reston Town Center because they left their garage door opener in an unlocked car, police say.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on March 3, someone gained access to a home in the 12100 block of Tryton Way by snatching the garage opener out of the unlocked vehicle, walking into the home and then taking a purse and a wallet inside, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.

The report also notes that someone entered a home in the 1700 block of Beaver Circle between 11 p.m. March 3 and 7 a.m. March 4 through a small door. Some small electronics were reported missing.
