Washington, DC MA Center to Host Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri August 15-16 at the Sheraton Reston

Spiritual Retreat and Free Public Program

On August 15-16, the Washington, DC MA Center will host a spiritual retreat and free public program with Swami Amritaswarupananda, senior disciple of Amma, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the Indian spiritual leader and humanitarian, who is revered worldwide as the "hugging saint" for her global charitable works and personal embraces.

The retreat, at the Sheraton Reston Hotel, 11810 Sunrise Valley Dr., will include inspiring spiritual talks, guided meditation, group yoga, devotional singing, and an opportunity for reflection and inner renewal. Those attending this special event will experience Amma’s timeless message of love, compassion, selfless service, and appeal for world peace.

Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, affectionately known as Amma, has devoted her life to promoting peace, compassion, and tolerance. For more than 35 years, she has traveled across the globe, inspiring millions through her message of selfless service and humanitarian values. Renowned for embracing over 40 million people worldwide, Amma has become a symbol of unconditional love, inspiring a global volunteer movement dedicated to serving those in need.

Amma is internationally recognized for her extensive philanthropic work. She is the founder and chairperson of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MA Math) and the founder of Embracing the World, a global humanitarian initiative. These organizations address the fundamental needs of underserved communities by providing food, shelter, healthcare, education, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. In addition, they engage in disaster relief, environmental conservation, and research to develop practical solutions that improve the lives of vulnerable populations.

Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, a close disciple of Amma since the 1970s, has been instrumental in expanding her vision into a global network of spiritual, humanitarian, and educational initiatives. A philosopher, acclaimed author, translator, speaker, and composer, he has traveled the world for over three decades, sharing Amma's message.
