Calling All Young Singers in Reston: You Could Win a Scholarship

The Reston Chorale is celebrating its 50th year with a big new competition.

RESTON, VA — So, you think you can sing? If you're right, the Reston Chorale may have a scholarship with your name on it.

In celebration of its 50th Season, the Reston Chorale is expanding its Robert E. Simon, Jr. Music Scholarship program, and up to eight high school and/or college singers will receive scholarships for the 2016-17 season, according to a statement.

The program is open to high school and undergraduate college students who are enrolled at least half-time, even if they aren't currently involved in a choral music program.

"Students selected to receive the scholarships will be invited to sing with the Chorale during our 2016-17 Season, and will receive a monetary award based upon the number of segments they complete and sing with the Chorale," the statement notes. "For high school students, scholarships will accrue for up to four years and be awarded upon graduation from high school (up to $1,200 per student). For college students, scholarships of up to $500 will be awarded annually, at the end of each season."

In addition, you'll get free membership with the Chorale as well as concert attire on loan as needed.

"Young singers also benefit from working with multiple directors, experienced singers and professional musicians, and exploring varied musical genres," the statement adds.
