But for locals who stick around, it can mean confusion about when services will be available, especially this year when Christmas falls on a Sunday and the official federal holiday is on Monday, the 26th. Here's a complete breakdown of what facilities and services will be available this weekend and beyond in Reston and the rest of Fairfax County.
PARKS
RECenters: Open on Dec. 24 and 26, but not on Christmas Day.

Historic Sites -- Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site: Closed Dec. 24 and 25, but open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Nature Centers -- E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond, Huntley Meadows: Closed Dec. 24 and 25, but open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Dec. 26.

Riverbend Park: Closed Dec. 24 and 25, but open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Frying Pan Farm Park: Closed Dec. 24 and 25, and the visitor center will also be closed Dec. 26, but the farm will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Green Spring Gardens: Closed Dec. 24 and 25, and the historic house will also be closed Dec. 26, but the horticultural center will be open from noon until 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 26.
