Dozens of Crashes in Reston Involving Teen Drivers, Authorities Say
A new crash map released by Fairfax County shows that several roads around Reston are dangerous.

RESTON, VA — An eye-opening new map from Fairfax County showing where crashes involving young drivers occur indicate that several spots in the Reston area are particularly dangerous.
Wiehle Avenue and Sunrise Valley Drive appear to have had the most crashes in the area involving young drivers in 2016. Fairfax County Parkway in the area of the Dulles Toll Road also sees its fair share of accidents.
Overall, 1,840 young drivers were involved in crashes in Fairfax County last year. Fortunately, in 97 percent of cases, teen drivers were wearing seat belts, and in only 2 percent of cases was alcohol involved. Also, the total number of 17- and 18-year-old drivers involved in crashes has declined by almost 100 occurrences compared to 2015, according to the county.

Two drivers were killed, and 17 percent were injured. In both fatal cases, the driver was speeding.
No Reston roads made Fairfax County's "Top 10 Most Dangerous Roadways for Youth Drivers" list.
