Drone Video Catches Reston Suspect Peeping Through Windows: Police

A drone helped Fairfax County police to quickly locate a suspect who they say was peeping through windows in Reston on Friday night.

RESTON, VA — With the help of a drone, Fairfax County police were able to quickly arrest a suspect who authorities say was peeping into occupied dwellings in Reston on Friday night.

Officers responded just after 11:15 p.m. to the 12000 block of Waterside View Drive to investigate the report of a peeping incident. The victim told police that she saw someone looking into her bedroom through a window.

Within 38 seconds of arriving on the scene, detectives from the Real Time Crime Center's Drone as First Responder program launched a drone and quickly located the suspect peering into other windows, according to the incident report.

Officers located the suspect, who was identified as 35-year-old Larry Mudd of Reston, and took him into custody, according to police.

Mudd was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with three counts of peeping into an occupied dwelling. He was then released on a personal recognizance bond, according to police.

Investigators do not believe Mudd is connected to the ongoing investigation into a series of nude burglaries in Centreville.

Mudd has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on April 22 in Fairfax County General District Court, according to court records.

Each of the three peeping charges are Class 1 misdemeanors, which carries a potential sentence of up to 12 months in jail, a fine of up to $2,500, or both, under the Code of Virginia.
