Eight Ivy League Schools Say 'Yes' to FCPS Student, 17

Spring means many Northern Virginia high school seniors are anxiously waiting to hear from college admission offices.

One Fairfax County Public Schools student has received invitations from all eight Ivy League schools, according to a story in The Washington Post.

Pooja Chandrashekar, 17, a student at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, has a 4.57 GPA and scored 2390 (out of 2400) on her SAT.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown, and the University of Pennsylvania are the eight Ivy Leagues that have let Pooja know she is welcome at their schools. Pooja is the only daughter of two engineers who emigrated from Bangalore, according to Times of India.

Also in the running for her — Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford, Duke, Georgia Tech, the University of Virginia, and the University of Michigan, the newspaper reported.

According to her Web site, Pooja is also the founder and CEO of ProjectCSGIRLS, a national youth-driven nonprofit working to close the tech gender gap by running a national computer science competition for middle school girls and workshops around the country.
