Explosive Confrontation At Reston Association Meeting Caught On Video (ICYMI)

RESTON, VA — Tempers flared at a Reston Association meeting on the Hook Road Recreation Area project this week after at-large board member Ray Wedell went toe-to-toe with Reston residents who attended the meeting.

"You don't go around like a big G-- damn bully, so sit down and shut up!" yelled one Reston resident at Wedell while sticking a finger in his chest. Wedell was repeatedly shouted down during the meeting.

The meeting was meant to provide members with a chance to learn about the project and share information, but Wedell rankled attendees with a proposal that some saw as an attempt to eliminate the tennis and basketball facilities.

As Cate Fulkerson, CEO of the Reston Association, went up to the podium to speak at the end of the meeting, another attendee suddenly yelled at Wedell from the back of the room.

"You are a disgrace!" he shouted. "You just told me to shut up! I've served this community and served it for eight years. I will not be told to shut up, sir. You are a disgrace. Stay away from me."

Wedell then walked to the front of the room, ignoring Fulkerson's pleas to let her finish. Another individual threatened to call the police.

"Call the police," Wedell shot back.
