FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — President Trump’s loss in Fairfax County on Tuesday was in contrast to his performance in 2016, as his share of the vote dropped from 28.61 percent to 28.03 percent.
In recent years, the county has supported Democratic Party candidates in national races, voting in 2020 to elect U.S. Reps. Don Beyer, Gerry Connolly, and Robert Wexler, as well as supporting the party's presidential ticket by a wide margin.
So how did Trump's support in Fairfax County compare with his vote totals in 2016, when he was running against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton?

According to results from the Virginia Department of Elections, Trump gained support in 2020, albeit by a slim margin.
In 2016, he earned 157,710 votes compared to 162,292 votes in 2020.

VDOE will continue to accept absentee ballots until 12 p.m., on Nov. 6. Results will be certified Nov. 16.
Tuesday's vote climaxed a heated battle for control of the White House, unfolding during a pandemic that killed nearly a quarter of a million Americans before Election Day.
Trump had struggled to overcome polling deficits in key states in the campaign’s final days. He ran strong as expected in rural areas, but lost support among other critical voting groups, including suburban women in several battleground states.
CNN reported in October that polling put Biden up by 25 points among women voters. According to the final 2016 pre-election polls, Clinton won women voters by 13 points among likely voters and 14 points among registered voters.
