UPDATE: Fairfax County Public Schools Cancel Classes For Feb. 23

The incoming snowstorm has forced Fairfax County Public Schools to change how classes will operate on Monday, Feb. 23.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — After first announcing a two-hour delay, Fairfax County Public Schools has said that all classes are canceled for Monday, Feb. 23.

The district website said: "Due to the worsening weather conditions, and after careful consideration, all FCPS schools and central offices will now be closed Monday, February 23, 2026.

In accordance with Regulation 4810, employees designated as essential personnel should follow supervisor direction. Emergency administrative leave is authorized for all other personnel.

The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:

  • Extracurricular activities.
  • Interscholastic contests.
  • Team practices.
  • Field trips.
  • Middle school after-school programs.
  • Professional learning and training courses.
  • Adult High School and GED.
  • Adult and Community Education (ACE) classes.
  • Recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS.
  • Homebound instruction.

School Age Child Care and Beyond the Bell centers are also closed.

A winter weather advisory is in place from 5 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday for the District of Columbia, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park. according to the National Weather Service.

Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches is expected with localized amounts around 5 inches, the NWS said. Look for northwest winds gusting between 30 and 40 mph overnight through Monday.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.
