Fairfax Police Promise 'Major Effort' Against Drunk Driving on 2016 Labor Day Weekend

Beware, impaired drivers: police in Fairfax County will be looking for you this extended weekend.

RESTON, VA — If you're celebrating in Reston this Labor Day weekend, make sure you don't celebrate too hard -- or at least don't get behind the wheel if you do, because police will be looking for you.

Fairfax County Police have announced a "major effort by our traffic division to stop impaired driving during Labor Day weekend," according to their official Twitter account.

FCPD did not elaborate on what measures would be involved in this effort, but checkpoints are certainly a possibility.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, one person dies in a crash caused by a drunk driver every 51 minutes, but on Labor Day weekend, that figure increases to one every 34 minutes.
