Fire Destroys 2-Story Home Near Reston

Passersby on Route 7 called 911 to report the fire, which broke out at a Great Falls home.

A Great Falls home has been destroyed after a Sunday morning fire broke out in a bedroom while the occupants were away.

Passersby on Route 7 spotted the flames at around 2:33 a.m. on Nov. 20 and called 911. Firefighters found a two-story, single-family home in the 1000 block of Northfalls Court, just outside of Reston, with "heavy fire showing from multiple floors," according to a report from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

No one was injured in the blaze, and the occupants weren't at home when the fire broke out. They were offered Red Cross assistance, but it has not been accepted at this time, according to the report.

Firefighters determined that the fire started in a second-floor bedroom area, but the exact cause is being investigated.

Total damage was estimated at $726,250, or the entire value of the home.
