Fire in Reston Causes Nearly $100,000 in Damage

Two adults were displaced after an electrical fire broke out at a home in Reston.

RESTON, VA — A fire broke out in a single-family house in Reston Sunday afternoon, causing nearly $100,000 in damage and displacing two adults.

Firefighters were called to the 12300 block of Brown Fox Way at around 12:29 p.m. on Sunday, April 9 to a report of a house fire. Responding units found smoke billowing from the front of the two-story, single-family house.

After entering the home, firefighters found the fire in the kitchen, according to a report from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

"The occupants of the home discovered the fire after experiencing a problem with a circuit breaker that had tripped," the report states. "Both occupants escaped without injury and notified 911. The smoke alarms did activate as the occupants were exiting the structure."

Fire investigators believe the fire started under the cook top in the back of a base cabinet in the kitchen. An undetermined electrical event caused the fire, which additionally caused a natural gas line to fail and led to a gas-fed fire.

No one was injured in the fire, although two adults were displaced. The fire caused an estimated $93,750 in damage.
