Firefighters Respond to Blaze Thursday Night at Wiehle-Reston East Station

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded after a fire broke out Thursday night at the Metro station in Reston.

Firefighters from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded Thursday night to a blaze at the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station, according to WMATA.

The fire at the metro station was called into the fire department by a Metro employee at 8:30 p.m., according to WMATA spokesman Michael Tolbert.

The fire reportedly broke out under a rail car that was not in service at the station at the time, Tolbert said.

There were no injuries, he noted.

While firefighters were working to put out the flame, a “fire standpipe” at the station, similar to a fire hydrant, leaked and caused water to flow across the platform, Tolbert said.
