Get to Know Your Police, Reston

The Fairfax County Police Department is looking to meet with the public this weekend.

Tensions have never been higher between the police and the public in this day and age, so all the more reason to meet with your local police officers in Reston this weekend and understand what they're about.

The Fairfax County Police Department will be at Reston Association headquarters at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston for a special "Glimpse Behind the Badge" outreach effort, according to a statement from the department.

Police are inviting the public to learn more about the department and meet the men and women who wear the badge for a three-hour forum on Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

"Attendees will be presented with an overview of the Fairfax County Police Department and will have the opportunity to gain insight into police policies and procedures," the statement notes. "Other topics that will be covered are use of force, what to expect during traffic stops and the everyday challenges officers face."

In addition, you'll get to learn about the FCPD's 10-week Citizens Police Academy, summer programs for high school students and station-level Citizen Advisory Committees.
