Get Ready, Reston Metro Riders: Surge No. 11 is Going to be Brutal

Three and a half weeks of hellish commutes are in your future this holiday season.

RESTON, VA — Surge No. 10 on the Red Line has finally wrapped up, and that means it's time for Reston residents who use the Silver Line to accept their punishment, which will start right after Thanksgiving and last right up until Christmas.

Surge No. 11 will impact the Orange and Silver lines between the West and East Falls Church starting Nov. 28 and lasting through Dec. 21. During that period, trains will "experience severe service reductions due to continuous single tracking," according to a statement from Metro.

Silver Line trains will run every 20 minutes at Wiehle-Reston East. Metro says to expect significant crowding and long wait times, and that perhaps it might be best to find some other transportation option other than Metro.

Also, weekend train frequencies "may change to coordinate with other planned track work on the Metrorail system," the statement notes. In the past, entire line segments have been shut down during Surges on weekends.
