Great Falls 'Explodes' With Flooding (Video)

Downpour after downpour has caused the Potomac River to swell, making Great Falls unrecognizably violent.

GREAT FALLS, VA -- If you managed to get a glimpse of Great Falls on Monday after the near constant rainfall in the area, you would have been treated to a scene of utter violence.

The Potomac River "boiled, churned, and even exploded into the air" on Monday afternoon, the Washington Post reported, and eye-popping photos and video from the scene certainly matches that description.

People gathered at Overlook #1 at Great Falls Park to watch the show, even cheering during a particularly big explosion of water, the report added.

Twitter user @cdjimas posted the following video that shows the raging water:

The D.C. area has received more than 10 inches of rain in the last 23 days, an extraordinary amount of moisture that has pushed the Potomac River to its highest level in eight years, the Post reported. That is all thanks to five different storms that have smacked the region.
