In Virginia with significant elections every year, we always are in the campaign mode. The trick is to keep the positions straight and don't do anything stupid. For example, eight months ago Delegate Ken Plum delighted pointing out the material provided by the General Assembly to late night comedy shows regarding sonograms of pregnant women considering abortion.
We now have Delegate Plum providing not so humorous material to the national new media by co-patroning (General Assembly speak for sponsoring legislation) House Joint Resolution 484. This Joint Resolution passed in the closing days of the regular General Assembly session commends the local bed and breakfast for Islamic terrorists, the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center for their contribution to strengthen the Muslim faith in the region through seminars, sermons, lectures, social activities and hours for the observance of daily prayer. This mosque served as a way station for a number of Islamic terrorists including the Fort Hood shooter. The most recent example coming to light was the Boston Marathon Pressure Cooker bomber. One does not know all of what goes on in the center during these stops. We may expect the mosque to frame the commendation, put it on the wall and use it as a fundraiser point.
Whatever the motivation for Delegate Plum, whether it be as a fellow-traveler for Islamic terrorists, a pay-off for campaign donations or simply being clueless, what goes around comes around. Now, Delegate Plum walk the cat back on this one !
