Here's How to Enjoy a Perfect Fall Day in Reston, From Morning to Night
Reston's dining scene and local parks are to be savored this upcoming fall season.
RESTON, VA — Fall is here, and nothing beats that chill in the air, the gentle breeze rustling the colorful leaves on the trees and the faint smell of someone burning firewood off in the distance. Once the leaves fully change into their autumn glory, it might be worthwhile to mark off a day to explore both Reston's dining scene and natural beauty, and we've put together an itinerary to get the most out of both.
Start off the day with a lazy brunch at Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge, one of the highest rated brunch spots in Reston Town Center. This dining spot offers brunch favorites like fresh berries with mascarpone cream, a "Brunch Burger" with a fried egg on top and, of course, mimosas and bloody marys.
Next, head on over to the nearby Tasting Room Wine Bar and Shop on Library Street with picnic basket in hand to pick out a selection of fine meats and cheeses for lunch later on. Sorry, alcohol isn't permitted in Fairfax County parks, so if you do pick up some wine it'll have to stay corked while you're out and about.

Then head on over to Great Falls to hike the Billy Goat Trail. Make sure you bring your hiking boots -- this rocky, boulder-filled trail stretches 4.7 miles, with the most popular stretch being on Bear Island. It will give you spectacular views of the falls, and the park has plenty of picnic tables. Or you can stop and enjoy your lunch somewhere along the trail.
As the sun starts to set, it's time to head back into town. Cap off the day with a visit to Barcelona Wine Bar, where you can sample from an array of wines and small plates as you ruminate over the day. Enjoy grilled oysters and steamed mussels as you sip on a glass of Chardonnay -- and be thankful that you live in Reston.
