'Honor Diaries,' Honor Violence Featured at 2014 Washington West Film Festival

The award-winning documentary film ‘Honor Diaries’ will be featured at the 2014 Washington West film Festival. The screening will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 2 PM at the Bow Tie Cinemas in Reston Town Center. 

The film is a testimonial of nine brave women who opened their hearts and risked their lives in order to create a platform for others to be heard. Their stories come from the both the Muslim world and the West giving a glimpse into a world often hidden from and misunderstood by outsiders.

Restriction of movement, lack of access to education, female genital mutilation (FGM), forced marriage, and honor violence are some of the abuses explored in depth.

The film gives a platform to exclusively female voices and seeks to expose the paralyzing political correctness that prevents many from identifying, understanding and addressing this international human rights tragedy.

“For millions of women and girls around the world, honor means you have no voice. For too many, it can mean rape, mutilation and death. And yet, despite the millions who suffer under this form of honor, most of us don’t even know about it. Until now,” explains film producer and writer, Paula Kweskin.

Since its release, ‘Honor Diaries’ has been viewed by over half a million people worldwide.It is now available on Netflix and DirecTV.
