Hopecam 5K Run/Walk Returns To Reston To Help Children Cancer Patients
Reston-based charity Hopecam is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a non-profit helping young cancer patients avoid social isolation.
RESTON, VA — Hopecam, the Reston-based charity that provides connective technology to children with cancer, is hosting its annual 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 7.
Runners and walkers can participate in-person starting at 8 a.m. on May 7, at 1890 Preston White Drive in Reston. Virtual participants can do so any time and anywhere. The family-friendly event will also feature carnival treats, face painting, a velcro wall and live music.

Registration for the 5K is $20 for participants 12 and under and $40 for 13 and up. Online registration closes on Thursday, May 4.
In-person runners can pick up their swag bags the day of the race starting at 7:30 a.m., or from 1:30-3 p.m., on Saturday, May 6, at the Potomac River Running store at 11911 Democracy drive in Reston.

Awards will be present to the top three male and female finishers in the adult (16 and up) and youth (15 and under) categories. In addition, awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers in the following age groups: 6-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over.
Not only will this be the 23rd year that Hopecam has hosted the run/walk in Reston, it's also the 20th anniversary that the charity has been a nonprofit.

Hopecam founder Len Forkas recently announced his intention to climb Mount Everest. Forkas began climbing mountains, running marathons and doing other physical challenges to raise money for the nonprofit he started after his son Matt was diagnosed with leukemia 20 years ago.
