Huge Population Boom Coming To Reston: County

Areas north of the toll road are expected to see the highest growth in the coming years.

RESTON, VA -- Fairfax County is expecting a massive increase in Reston's population between now and 2045, according to a new report.

The report -- Demographic Reports 2018 County of Fairfax, Virginia -- claims that the population for zip code 20190, which includes areas just north of the toll road, will double by 2045, soaring from 20,567 in 2018 to 41,226.

Zip code 20191, which is south of the toll road, will also see a major increase: from 29,533 to 47,692 by 2045, the report predicts.

The third Reston zip code -- 20194 in the far northern suburbs of Reston -- will see virtually no change over that time frame, increasing from 14,446 to 15,071, the report says.

The report comes as a fierce debate rages over Fairfax County's plan to raise the population density limit in the Reston Planned Residential Community (PRC) area, a move that has resulted in loud opposition from some residents who argue that Reston lacks the infrastructure to handle the growth.

The opening of a new Silver Line Metro station at Reston Town Center around 2020 is likely to help fuel this surge in population.
