ICYMI: 2 Robberies Reported on W&OD Trail in Reston, Arlington

Two hikers on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail -- one in Reston and one in Arlington -- were robbed in two separate incidents just hours apart on Sept. 9, police said.

The first happened in the 6600 block of N. 19th Road at around 4:22 p.m. on Sept. 9, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"When on scene, it was determined that a female victim was walking on the W& OD trail and was approached by two masked subjects who demanded her property at gunpoint," the report states. "The victim began to yell for help, causing the subjects to flee. A witness observed the subjects get on to a bus where they were later apprehended by officers."

The two suspects turned out to be both minors, a boy and a girl. The boy was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy and use of a firearm while committing a felony, while the girl was charged with armed robbery and conspiracy. They were taken to the juvenile detention facility.

A little more than six hours later, Fairfax County Police reported that a man had been walking on a pathway on the W&OD trail east of Reston Parkway when he was assaulted by four men.

"The suspects took his wallet and then fled on foot," the statement reads. "The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects were all described as Hispanic."

The W&OD trail is 44.7 miles long, running from Purcellville in Loudoun County to Shirlington in Arlington County.
