Indian Restaurant Gets 10 Violations | Reston/Herndon Inspections

Fairfax County reported violations at Penn Station East Coast Subs, IMO Cafe, and others on Oct. 26-27.

RESTON/HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts inspections of Reston and Herndon restaurants. Reports are generally posted about a week after the inspection. We've listed the violations from inspections at local restaurants -- including a staggering seven critical violations at Westin Reston Heights -- from Sept. 27-29, the most recent dates available.

Critical violation: Observation (REPEAT) (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The concentration of the quaternary ammonia solution was measured at above 500 ppm. This concentration exceeds the approved limits for use with food-contact surfaces of equipment and utensils in a foodservice establishment.

Critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The concentration of the CHLORINE solution was measured at ABOVE 200 ppm. This concentration exceeds the approved limits for use with food-contact surfaces of equipment and utensils in a foodservice establishment.

Critical violation: Observation (REPEAT) (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The following food item(s) were observed cold holding at improper temperatures using a calibrated food temperature measuring device: chicken curry (46F) in 2 door upright cooler, grits (55F) and cottage cheese (55F) in 2 door beverage cooler.

Critical violation: Observation: The following ready-to-eat food that is made using a combination of ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous ingredients is not properly dated for discard using the date of the first-prepared ingredient: mango lassi in reach in cooler at bar, sour cream, shreaded cheese, and egg batter in 2 door undercounter cooler.

Critical violation: Observation: The following equipment/utensils were observed soiled to sight and touch: soda dispenser and drain line at bar counter, and can opener under counter in kitchen.

Critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Working containers of poisonous and toxic materials are not properly labeled with a common name.

Critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The concentration of the chlorine solution was measured at 200ppm. This concentration exceeds the approved limits for use with food-contact surfaces of equipment and utensils in a foodservice establishment.

Non-critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The handwashing facility located at the kitchen is blocked by a trashbin, preventing access by employees for easy handwashing.

Non-critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Observed the handsink at the kitchen being used to rinse and hold wet wiping rags.

Non-critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Observed that paper towels were not provided at each handwashing sink.

Critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The following food item(s) were found hot holding at improper temperatures using a calibrated food temperature measuring device: chicken (95F) and sauteed orange peel with berries (95F) in the warmer received from main kitchen at 9am.

Non-critical violation: Observation: Surfaces of beverage dispensing nozzles are not being cleaned as required.
