Labor Day 2018 VA Grocery Hours: Wegmans, Giant, Harris Teeter

VIRGINIA — Labor Day is a holiday that lets us honor the contributions of American workers, but it also gives us a three-day weekend before summer disappears to spend time with family and friends, grill out and rest. What are the odds that a recipe you try, or surprise guests who drop by, require a last-minute trip to the grocery store?

Here is a list of northern Virginia and DC grocery stores that will be open, and closed, on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, along with their hours. However, it is always best to call the store and make sure the item you're looking for is in stock.

Nearly every food store in the region — Giant, Wegmans, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter among others — is open on Monday, with a few hours adjusted for the holiday. Here is the status for Virginia and Washington, D.C., grocery chains, taken from their websites and emails to Patch. Some stores may vary.

Grocery Store Hours

• Wegmans Food Markets: Stores will be open their normal business hours: 6 a.m. to midnight.
• Food Lion: All stores will be open normal business hours.
• Safeway: Open normal hours, most locations open 5 a.m. to midnight, some open 24 hours a day.
• Weis Markets: Stores open regular hours, the closing time depends on the store, some are open 24 hours a day, some close at 11 p.m.
• Giant Foods: Stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Harris Teeter: Open normal hours, most stores open 24 hours.
• Trader Joes: Stores will be open normal hours, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Whole Foods: Stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• ShopRite Supermarkets: Maryland stores will be open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Labor Day. Many ShopRite stores are independently owned and operated, so holiday hours will vary. Customers should check their local store's Facebook page or call to check holiday hours.
• Fresh Market: Stores are open normal hours on Monday.
• MOMs My Organic Market: Open normal hours on Monday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• ALDI: All stores will be open limited hours on Labor Day. The holiday hours for your local store can be found by using the store locator.
• Costco: All stores are closed on Labor Day.
• Sam's Club: Stores will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Walmart: Stores will be open regular hours.
• Target: Store are open regular hours on Monday.
