Lake Anne Jazz Concert To Honor Memory Of Reston Musician Mykle Lyons
Lake Anne & Washington Plaza Merchant Association is hosting the Second Annual Mykle Lyons Commemorative Concert on Saturday in Reston.

RESTON, VA — To honor the memory of Reston's own accomplished musician and educator, the Lake Anne & Washington Plaza Merchant Association is hosting the Second Annual Mykle Lyons Commemorative Concert from 12-6 p.m., on Saturday, at Lake Anne Plaza.
LAWPA is sponsoring the jazz concert in conjunction with Kalypso's Sports Tavern and Roxplosion. The performance was originally planned for Oct. 1, but organizers rescheduled it to Saturday, Oct. 8 due to last weekend's rainy weather. Food will be available to purchase from LAWPA vendors.
The free, family-friendly musical event will feature the following performers:

- Peter Fraize Quartet
- Chris Timbers Band
- GMU Jazz Trio
Growing up in Mississippi, Lyons moved with his to Reston after elementary school. He went on to study with Ellis Marsalis as a student at Virginia Commonwealth University and later played with Wynton, Ellis, Branford, Delfeayo, and Jason Marsalis; Don Braden, Lew Tabacken, Ralph Bowen, Vincent Herring, Wes Anderson and Eric Alexander. The Mykle Lyons' Quartet was a featured act at the Presidential Inaugural Gala in 1992 and 1996.
In addition to honoring Lyon's memory with Saturday's concert, LAWPA is establishing a memorial scholarship with tax-deductible donations going to the Friends of Music at George Mason to help George Mason University music students.
