RESTON, VA — Reston Association received final approval from state and local agencies to begin construction work on the new Lake Thoreau pool facility. Work is expected to begin in the next couple weeks, according to a post on RA's website.

It took seven months for officials to approve the various permits needed to conduct the extensive renovation work needed at the Lake Thoreau pool, which RA's capital projects team called "unanticipated and unprecedented."

RA hired Hubert Construction in late November 2021 as the general contractor for the project. Depending on weather and possible supply chain issues, the work is expected to 12 months to complete.

Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday. Although weekend work is not expected, the contractor will notify the community if it needs to work during the weekend.

During the initial stages, work crews will close off the parking lot and detour the Red Loop Trail to the sidewalk on Sunrise Valley Drive, according to the Lake Thoreau Pool Project website.

After demolishing the existing pool and structures, work crews will install new pool basins and deck, retaining walls, sidewalks, parking lot, and fencing. A new bathhouse will also be constructed.
