RESTON, VA — Reston Association is hosting a drop-in information session from 6:30-9:30 p.m., on Thursday, for residents to stop by and learn more about the Reston Comprehensive Plan Review. Members of the RA Board and other representatives will be available to share information an answer questions about the plan.

Thursday night's information session will take place at RA headquarters, which is located at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston.

Back in January 2020, Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn kicked off the process to review the county plan that governs land use for Reston. A 31-member task force charged with reviewing the plan met over the next year and a half and released their initial recommendations last April.

Once the task force released its final report at the end of August, the public review process began. Reston residents have until Oct. 28 to provide feedback on the plan before the Fairfax County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors vote on it later this year.

The final report covers 14 topic areas: planning principles, heritage resources, transportation, public facilities, land use, affordable housing, parks, environmental stewardship, public art, economic development, community health and equity.

On Sept. 9, the RA Board posted its position on and priorities for the plan on the RA website.

"RA Board Directors and staff will be actively participating in community meetings conducted by Supervisor Alcorn, and we plan to provide testimony at future Fairfax County Zoning and Planning and Board of Supervisors meetings around these policy positions," RA Board President Sarah Selvaraj-D’Souza said, earlier this month.

In addition to Thursday's information session hosted by the RA Board, residents have two other opportunities this week to learn about the Reston Comprehensive Plan Review and provide feedback:

  • In-Person Community Meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., in the second floor conference room at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza in Reston Station.

The Department of Planning and Zoning will be scheduling additional meetings in October. Members of the public can provide feedback via the county's online portal through Oct. 28
